You’re Going To Lose That Girl was never released as a single in 1965. Capitol Records was going to release it in 1977 as part of The Love Songs Album but changed their mind at the last minute. Foreigner-Waiting For A Girl Like You

Lou Gramm lead singer of Foreigner said in his autobiography Jukebox Hero: My five decades in Rock n Roll that while recording Waiting For a Girl Like You, this beautiful woman walked in the studio and plopped herself down in the front row theater seats near the glass that looks out into the studio where he was recording. Gramm says she was stunning. He serenaded her for about forty-five minutes. After the final take, she smiled at him, waved goodbye, and walked out of the studio. When the session was over Gramm walks into the control room and asks ”who was that”? Everyone looks at him funny and says “we thought she was with you”. They all barged out of the room into the hallway not knowing her name and never saw her again. Gramm said “She inspired me to hit all the right notes for that ballad. I have never sung that song better than I did that day”. The synthesizer intro was played by Thomas Dolby of “She Blinded Me with Science” fame. “Waiting For A Girl Like You” climbed to number 2 on the charts for an astounding 10 weeks in 1981. Gramm left Foreigner a few times and rejoined over the years. He made his last appearance with the group on December 29th, 2018.

The song was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love of The Beach Boys. Wilson wrote the lyrics while on his first acid trip. Love was not originally credited as a co writer because he was told that Murry Wilson, Brian’s dad, and the band’s manager left him out by mistake. Love was awarded credit after a successful lawsuit for songwriting credits in the 1990s. The song climbed to number 3 on the charts in 1965. David Lee Roth of Van Halen recorded a version for his first solo single and it also reached number 3 on the charts in 1984 with backing vocals from Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys and singer-songwriter Christopher Cross.

My Girl is one of the most familiar songs of all time. When you hear the opening theme you know it’s “My Girl”. It was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronnie White of the Miracles.
